Volkswagen E-Bugster showcased at the 2012 Detroit MotorShow

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle recently made its Indian appearance at the2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi. Now the bug has gone back into a concept form to showcase itself with an electric drivetrain. The concept was displayed at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show and will be called the Volkswagen E-Bugster.
The E-Bugster is powered by Volkswagen’s Blue-e-motion electric drive train. The setup comprises of a lithium-ion battery pack that powers a 115-odd PS (85 kW) motor and puts out 270 Nm of torque. The setup will be good for a combined range of up to 100 km and can be charged through pretty much all sorts of electric-vehicle charging options, including a quick charge that will restore up to 80per cent juice in 30 minutes. This electric drive train is expected to make its production debut in the new Golf EV.
As for the E-Bugster, the electric Beetle looks more or less similar to the one that we saw at the 2012 Auto Expo. However, its roof is three inches shorter, has 20-inch alloys and comes with redesigned day time-running LEDs at the front and the back.
